These are my final thoughts, my reflection, now that I have completed my final project for this class. A number of technology components were used in making our wiki.
Among them were the wiki itself, a gizmos, a webspiration, an animoto, a wordle and the use of library thing.
These components would be effective in the learning need of 6th graders completing a research project as they were both entertaining (the gizmos and the wordle), and they were also educational (library thing) & informative (webspiration).
The online collaborations and the social networks that now exist have redefined school libraries in the 21st century. Libraries are becoming more technologically advanced and have gone beyond the bookshelves to providing avenues of learning to students that can take them around the world. In present day libraries, "shh" has become extinct.
One of the potential problems in the development of the wiki was the inability of the user to stay within the wiki while selecting a link given in the wiki. This might prove to be a problem with younger students in "finding their way back" to the wiki. Another problem that was encountered occurred while reviewing the wiki. I wanted to change the home page and re-label it as the welcome page and vice versa. It did not seem that this was able to be done.
Collaboration definitely aided in the development of this wiki. Of course, another person helps by bringing in a different point of view and may see things that I did not. As a team, we can critique each others contribution before it is submitted to the professor.
Too much of a good thing?
